Leslie CalmanLeslie J. Calman, Ph.D.
Executive Director

Dr. Calman earned her Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University; her B.A is from Barnard College. An 8 year resident of the District of Columbia, Dr. Calman is a nationally recognized expert on lesbian health and is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the National LGBT Health Coalition; the National Advisory Council for the Healthcare Equality Index sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Health Association; and the National LGBT Policy Roundtable. In 2010, she was invited to give testimony about lesbian health to the Institute of Medicine and a meeting of The Joint Commission.

Leslie CalmanD Magrini
Health Education Program Director

For over 20 years, D Magrini has worked to reduce health disparities and improve access to culturally sensitive care for underserved and vulnerable women throughout the DC Area and has developed a range of successful strategies for getting different communities of women of color to participate in health promotion and early intervention programs. Ms. Magrini attended American University, and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Ms. Brooks joined Mautner Project in 2011. A 4 year resident of the District of Columbia, Ms. Brooks holds a Master of Social Work degree from Howard University, and A B.A. of psychology from University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Ms. Brooks has focused on the LGBT populations and women’s issues through her work with the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL) in Washington, DC, the DC Superior Courts, as well as agencies and projects focused on domestic violence and LGBT bias crimes.

Leslie CalmanRiana Buford

Ms. Buford is a graduate of Howard University, B.A., cum laude. A 10 year resident of the DC Area, Ms. Buford launched her post graduate career at Mautner Project where she started as an intern before transitioning into a full time role as Health Outreach Coordinator with responsibilities related to tobacco outreach and advocacy. After a year of successfully managing this key initiative, she was promoted to Educational Programs Associate, supporting the management and implementation of health education and training programs.

Leslie CalmanSara Howard

Ms. Howard joined Mautner Project in 2012, after completing an internship with the organization in 2011. She holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. As an undergraduate, she chaired the Five College Area Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, and was the event's keynote speaker in 2011, sharing her experience as a caregiver. Prior to joining the Mautner Project staff, Ms. Howard worked for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C., where she specialized in fundraising and large-scale event planning; cultivating the support of local businesses for special events. She was recently appointed to sit on Mount Holyoke’s Alumnae Executive Board for the DC Metro Area.

Leslie CalmanRamatoulaye Keita
Operations Coordinator

Ms. Keita holds a Bachelors of Science in Family Science from The University of Maryland, College Park School of Public Health. Originating from Guinea Conakry, West Africa, Ramatoulaye has been a resident of Maryland for 17 years and is a fluent French speaker. Ms. Keita began her role as Operations Coordinator in September of 2012 after several years of volunteering for the organization. Outside of Mautner Project, Ms. Keita has also enjoyed volunteering with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and the American Cancer Society. At Mautner Project, Ms. Keita assists the Client Services department with volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and clients needing French language services; she also manages the office while acting as the day-to-day bookkeeper.
