Diet & Nutrition: News You Can Use

It seems like what we eat is about almost everything besides what our bodies need! Huge corporations bombard us with advertisements for snacks that are overpriced and under-nutritious. Even if we have a good grocery store in our neighborhood, it’s cheaper to buy many of the things we don’t need very much (processed carbs) than the things we do (fresh veggies). We’re too busy or exhausted to cook, so we buy fast food that’s unhealthy or that we may not even like. So many of our thoughts about food are based on our feelings about our weight, our self-esteem, or our mood - we’ll starve ourselves for a while trying to lose weight, reward ourselves by binging on guilty pleasures, or gorge on comfort food when we’ve had a bad day.

Take a moment to stop and think about it.  Food is how we give our bodies what we need to continue living, and our bodies deserve the best. Eating healthy isn’t about losing weight, denying ourselves the pleasures of food we love, or punishing ourselves for being round or indulging in other foods. It’s about taking care of ourselves, because we deserve it. Finding a healthy way of eating that feels right to you can help your body feel better every day as well as reducing your risks of health conditions from diabetes to cancer.
