Our featured presenter, Sasha-Vanessa Brenes found yoga in 1995 after suffering knee surgery and back pain in a skiing accident. She was an aerobics instructor teaching hours of step, spinning, dance and body-sculpting classes. Embarking on her yoga journey, her life has never been the same. A yogi, runner and cyclist, Sasha-Vanessa integrates a daily meditation and yoga practice. She praises the benefits of yoga to help release stress and to decrease the tension and repetitive movements caused to her body by aerobic exercise. She is forever thankful for the healing power of meditation and yoga in helping her to overcome a 15-year struggle with poor self-esteem, anorexia and disordered eating. Sasha-Vanessa loves to bring meditation exercises and the physical practice of yoga out into the community so others may find their true inner beauty and let their light shine.

How Meditation and Yoga Can Assist in Healing and Recovery: Using breath exercises (pranayama) and asanas (physical poses), yoga assists you in reconnecting with your body, mind and spirit as a whole organism. Yoga can help you to feel "in" to your body, or to deal with the achiness and joint pain that is associated with chemotherapy and radiation. In turn, using yoga's breathing and meditation and spiritual teachings about non-attachment, we'll address the idea that you are not your body, your feelings, nor your thoughts, because you are able to stay present in the moment. We will explore some of these fundamental breathing techniques and yoga poses. All levels are welcome. Come as you are, opening your heart, expanding your mind, and loving ourselves as we are.
